1) What makes a good scout tank?
High view range, concealment, and mobility
2) Your job as a scout is to provide value. You have to decide how you can best provide value.
You can provide value by:
a) Getting initial spots so your team knows where/how their team is deploying
b) Lighting tanks so your team can do damage
c) Lighting tanks so they are pinned behind cover. if they get lit everytime they peek/poke they will be more likely to stay in cover even if there is actually no one to shoot them.
d) Do damage yourself
e) Counter scout
f) Play assassin, take out low health tanks to get their guns off the field
g) Slip through and kill arty.
h) Play distraction. Got a stalemate on a flank where you have the overmatch? Use your speed and zip past the enemy a take a couple ass shots as you go by. By getting the enemy to turn their turrets/hulls/attention to you, it may give your team some balls to push them.

3) Make sure you are providing value, especially if you are risking your health.
IF YOU ARE SCOUTING LAKEVILLE MIDDLE ROAD AND HAVE NO TDS BEHIND YOU TO SHOOT THE TANKS YOU LIGHT, ARE YOU PROVIDING VALUE? NOPE. SAY YOU CONTROL THE "MAGIC BUSH" AT E1 IN PROKHOROVKA, BUT ALL THE STUFF YOU ARE LIGHTING IS OUT OF DRAW FOR YOUR WUSSY TDS CAMPING A OR K...ARE YOU PROVIDING VALUE? NOPE. YES THEY SUCK FOR NOT MOVING UP, BUT YOU SUCK IF YOU STAY. YOU ARE RISKING YOUR HEALTH FOR NO REWARD.
4) Can only light tanks scout?
Some examples TDs (E25, T67, JT88) MTs(BC40T, Leopard1)
If your scouts suck, die (repetitive?) , or you don't have enough and you are on a view range map (Prokhorovka, Malinovka, Fiery Salient, etc) someone else needs to step up or you will likely lose.

5) Active vs Passive
Active scouting is where you move, peek, etc. trying to get lights fully expecting to get lit.
Passive scouting is sitting stationary trying to light tanks without being lit.
Which is better? Neither, both are essential and frequently both are needed during a game.

6) Can I get a good Wn8 scouting?
Technically, no. The assisted damage you get, while absolutely vital, does not contribute to WN8. However, there are 2 ways to get a WN8 in a light tank: 1) Depending on the tank, abuse your concealment and mobility playing it like a MT or TD, and 2) Use your mobility to get cleanup damage.
7) What crew skills are important?
6th Sense, Camo, BIA, Situational Awareness, Recon, Repairs
For new light tanks, I will train all in camo. Then once PAST 100%, re-train commander to 6th sense and start him on camo while rest start repairs. Once past 100%, retrain all to Camo+BIA+6th. Once >100%, retrain to camo +bia+individual, then set all on repairs.

8) Philosophies
a) Pure Scout. Damage is not important.
b) Play for damage while scouting as needed to ensure the win.
Which is correct? I like A, but since the majority of maps are not view range dependent, B is just as valid.
Note: While the overall style may effect your equipment choice, it does not mean you can't switch back and forth as needed.

9) If you choose the scout style of play vs the damage style, your match should roughly go like this:
a) Is this a map where vision is crucial to winning?
b) Look at the enemy team composition to see what is going to be important. If you have no TDs, scouting the 1-2 lines on Prokhorovka is not likely to be helpful.
c) Look at the enemy scouts paying attention to the tank and how good they are in it. Where are they likely to go? Are you better off to start with a counter scout position to eliminate a good scout on the enemy team?
d) Pick your initial active/passive/counter position based on the above.
e) Stay there as long as you are providing value.
f) Move to where you can provide value. You can flex better than anyone. Switch to the other flank if you can provide more value there, defend base if needed either by damage or lighting them for teammates, etc. Re-evaluate and ask yourself, could I be providing more value somewhere else or doing something else.
g) Conserve your health so that once the game is decided win or lose, you can use your speed to do damage and you have the health to take a couple shots in the process.

10) Equipment
For A: Optics, vents, binocs, net.
For B: Rammer, vents, V-Stab, Optics
Note: (if VR>=Max Spot(445m) with Vents, consider running w/o optics.)

11) Important concepts
See prev lessons on bush mechanics, hull down, 6th sense, etc.
12) Tips
For passive scouting, back into bushes so you can escape faster, don't shoot, be aimed so if you are spotted you can take shots as you escape.
For active scouting, pay close attention to how much of your tank you are exposing.

13) Other roles
Some light tanks make Assassin/anti-scout tanks thanks to their burst damage: Leopard, AMX 13 57 GF, T49 w/ derp
